The Effectiveness of Circle of Security-Parenting (COS-P) Program on the Parenting Style of Mothers of Children with Hearing Impairment

Abstract
Aim: This study examined the effectiveness of the Circle of Security–Parenting (COS-P) program in improving parenting styles among mothers of children with hearing impairment.
 
Method: A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest–follow-up design with a control group was used. The population included mothers of children aged 4–6 years with hearing impairment in Shiraz during 2023–2024. Thirty participants were selected through convenience sampling and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (15 each). The Baumrind Parenting Styles Questionnaire was administered at three time points. The experimental group received ten weekly COS-P sessions (90–120 minutes each). Data were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA.
 
Results: The COS-P program produced a significant increase in authoritative parenting (F = 28.10, p < 0.05) and a significant decrease in permissive parenting (F = 19.92, p < 0.01) at posttest, with effects maintained at follow-up. No significant change was observed in authoritarian parenting style (F = 1.83, p > 0.05).
 
Conclusion: COS-P is an effective intervention for enhancing adaptive parenting styles among mothers of children with hearing impairment. Implementing this attachment-based program may support healthier parent–child relationships and promote better developmental outcomes in this population.
