[English]

Aim: This study examined the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and workaholism, with locus of control as a mediator and self-esteem as a moderator.

Method: This correlational-descriptive study included 263 employees of private organizations in Saveh during 1402, recruited through convenience sampling. Participants completed the Early Maladaptive Schema Questionnaire, Locus of Control Questionnaire, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and Workaholism Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the PROCESS macro in SPSS-26.

Results: Early maladaptive schemas showed a significant positive relationship with workaholism (β = 0.39, p < .001). Locus of control significantly mediated this relationship (β = 0.20, p < .05), while self-esteem significantly moderated it (β = 0.12, p < .05). These findings indicate that individuals with maladaptive schemas are more likely to exhibit workaholic tendencies, particularly when characterized by external locus of control and lower self-esteem.

Conclusion: The findings highlight the importance of considering cognitive schemas, locus of control, and self-esteem in the development and maintenance of workaholism. Preventive and therapeutic interventions targeting these psychological factors may help reduce maladaptive work behaviors among employees.
