[English]

Aim: The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of alexithymia in the relationship between mindfulness and entrapment with psychological distress in fathers of children with autism spectrum disorder.
Method: The design of this study was descriptive and correlational. The statistical population included all fathers of children with autism spectrum disorder referred to Baqiyatallah Hospital (AJ) and centers under the supervision of the Welfare Department of Tehran in 1403, of which 200 people were selected as the study sample using a non random sampling method. Data were collected using the alexithymia scale )Begbie et al, 1994), mindful  attention awareness scale  (Brown and Ryan, 2003), entrapment scale (Gilbert and Allen, 1998), psychological distress  scale (Kessler et al., 2002). Data were analyzed using SPSS23 and Smart PLS3 software.
Results: The findings of the study showed that alexithymia has a direct effect on the psychological distress of fathers of children with autism spectrum disorder (p<0.01)
and acts as a significant mediator variable in the relationship between entrapment and psychological distress (p<0.05), However, alexithymia did not have a significant mediating role in the relationship between mindfulness and psychological distress, (p>0.05).
Conclusion: The findings of the study showed that in order to reduce psychological distress in fathers of children with autism spectrum disorder, attention to alexithymia, mindfulness, and entrapment should be considered in developing future interventions for this group.
