Aim: This study examined the role of perceived social support on quality of life in primary infertility with mediated by resilience and cognitive emotion regulation strategies.
Methods: In this descriptive-correlational study, women attending specialized infertility clinics in Qom, Iran, during winter 2025 and spring 2026 were recruited. Through convenience sampling, 350 were selected, and 331 datasets were analyzed. Instruments were the FertiQoL, PSSS-12, CD-RISC-10, and CERQ-18. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and structural equation modeling.
Results: Perceived social support had significant direct effects on quality of life (β=0.20), resilience (β=0.45), adaptive strategies (β=0.38), and maladaptive emotion-regulation strategies (β=-0.44) (p<0.001). Resilience (β=0.17) and maladaptive strategies (β=-0.61) had significant direct effects on quality of life (p<0.001). The direct effect of adaptive strategies on quality of life was not significant (β=0.02, p=0.733). Bootstrap indirect-path analysis confirmed the mediating roles of resilience (β=0.39) and maladaptive cognitive emotion-regulation strategies (β=-0.42) in the relationship between perceived social support and quality of life, while rejecting the mediating role of adaptive strategies (p<0.001). Model fit was good
Conclusion: Perceived social support improves quality of life in women with primary infertility directly and by increasing resilience and reducing maladaptive emotion-regulation strategies. Therefore, psychological interventions should focus on social support, training adaptive cognitive emotion regulation, and reducing maladaptive strategies.
