Aim: The purpose of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive- behavioral stress management group training on impulsivity and mental health of addicts who were under methadone maintenance therapy (MMT). Methods: the research design in this study was quasi – experimental, 20 addicts who were under methadone maintenance therapy were selected by available sampling model from one of the Tehran province clinic, then were put into two experimental group (n=10) and control group (n=10) by random. The experimental group received cognitive- behavioral stress management group training in 10 sessions. All participants completed the Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS) and depression, anxiety and stress subscales of DASS- 21 test as pre- test and the post- test. Results: The results of MANCOVA showed that the mean scores of impulsivity, depression, anxiety and stress have significantly decreased in the experimental group compared to control group in the post- test. Conclusion: The results of this research showed that cognitive - behavioral stress management group training can be an effective intervention for addicts who are under MMT.
